about

This track was written for a friend going through a tough time. We've know each other since we were seven during which he has lost his brother to suicide and his mother to alcoholism. As this song was written he got the news that he is now losing his dad to cancer. I offer this as a tribute to the resilient survivors who have been affected by the ravages of addiction, mental illness, and suicide. Know that I feel what you are going through.

lyrics

So I got a call from Columbus was the middle of the night (hear the phone ring)
Got to take that call from Columbus could be the end of line (hear the angels sing)
When the bullets fly in Columbus, be that you hit decline (hear the phone ring)
Should I take that call from Columbus? Could be the end of the line

Let me tell you about childhood New Year’s 1981 (there was no party)
Found her lying in the kitchen I hear cause the bottle was the only one
(Now she left three)
Second boy just seven years old says, “mama what have you done?”
Did you pick up the phone cause you felt so alone? Nobody on the end of the line. It was the end of the line.

Let me tell you about friend of mine he’s the kind that stand the test of time (understand me)
Was the summer we were playing neath the trees when they called me in to tell me that my mama (was about to leave)
Her only boy just eight years old saying,
“mama what’s going on?” She says, “there’s nothing you’ve done but I got to move on.” This is the end of the line. It was the end of the line.

Then there was Charlie we played basketball and we climbed to the top of the mountain got away from it all
Then Charlie took a pistol and the old man heard the shot and he raced to the scene.
Tell me what have you done?
(what have I done?)
What have you done?
(what have I done?)
Been thinking what could I have have done?

Now let me tell you about an old man he been hacking for the past few months. (He been suffering) Doctor says that his time is near and he calls to tell his only son. (Hear the phone ring)
You’re gonna have to come back to L.A. ain’t gonna do what the doctor wants. I got an old 38 gonna kill all the pain. This is the end of the line. This is the end of the line.

So I got a call from Columbus was the middle of the night (hear the phone ring)
Got to take that call from Columbus could be the end of line (hear the angels sing)
When the bullets fly in Columbus could be that you hit decline (hear the phone ring) should I take that call from Columbus? I’m at the end of the line
